The story of the Gunn Family and Gunn Creek Farm

Mark and Gretchen Gunn acquired Gunn Creek Farm in July of 2004.  They were naive back then.   They believed the previous owner when he said he had someone lined up to farm the land for them!  One month into ownership, and they were picking peaches and berries.  Two months in, they were parking their truck laden with fruit for sale at the end of their driveway.

Gretchen's Farm Experience

Gretchen is no stranger to the farm life.  Growing up near Cornell University in Spencer, NY, her first 18 years were spent on a subsistence farm with chickens, pigs, turkeys, jersey cows, angus, peacocks, geese, sheep, and every produce item that would survive the soil.

"As a kid, we went to the store for condiments... And not even ketchup... We made that.  We bought sugar, flour and salt.  I guess I wasn't as upset when the reality hit that I was going to work a farm again.  But I should have known better!"

Mark's Farm Experience

Mark is newer to the farm life.

"I really thought we would sit on our front porch and watch someone tend the fields.  Right!  Now when we finally sit on the porch, it's after hours of tending those same fields.  We are exhausted, but nothing beats the sense of satisfaction of what we have accomplished."

Mickie and Phil

Gretchen's mother Mickie and her husband Phil are also an integral part of Gunn Creek farm.  Mickie brings years of farm experience to help Mark and Gretchen through the growing season.  Phil, grew up in NYC but has his own farm ten minutes away.  They are the ones wearing white.

Our son Carter and the rest of our happy family

Above is Gretchen and Mark's son Carter, who is holding a day old lamb named Jasmine.  To the right is the rest of the family, Biffy, Marmalade, Renegade, and Vagabond  as well as the true keeper of Gunn Creek, Kipper the dog!

Sundance and Adera and here!!

Sundance is Gretchen's Palamino.  The Gunns are making arrangements to have Sundance live at Gunn Creek Farm.

Mark built the horse stalls in the barn and put up fence.   Sundance's new "girl friend" Adera is here to keep him company
